Please note on our best days our itinerary will be smooth transits from one anchorage to another as shown on the programme we have offered. However, this is the West Coast of Scotland, and we are governed by mother nature. So, on occasion, for your comfort and safety, we may need to tweak the original course that we are looking to follow. But wherever our tweaking takes us, our trip and destination anchorages will always be special.
Day 1: Oban, regarded as the seafood capital of Scotland and known as the ‘Gateway to the Western Isles,’ will be our starting point. Boarding Hjalmar Bjorge commences at approximately 14:30 from the pontoons near Oban’s North Pier. A short briefing will follow to acquaint our guests with life aboard the ship, its safety procedures, policies, and get you settled into your accommodation. We aim to cast off at 15:30 and proceed to our first anchorage for the night.
Day 2: First visit to the Small Isles, probably anchoring at one of our favourite locations, Canna. Easy to get ashore and great walks and wildlife to be spotted.
Day 3: Cross the Sea of the Hebrides and make for Lochmaddy, North Uist, a great location for spotting otters.
Day 4: Through the Sound of Harris and heading north for island of Scarp and an afternoon to explore the island.
Day 5: Heading north, if weather permits, it’s a passage to the Flannans and overnight at west Loch Roag on Lewis.
Day 6: A morning ashore and an optional visit to the Standing stones of Callanish. A short afternoon cruise will see us back at Scarp and a chance this time to explore the remote Harris and Lewis sea lochs
Day 7: Heading South, a short distance to Taransay and plenty of time ashore and an overnight anchorage.
Day 8: Taransay to isle of Skye, we have a variety of anchorage options.
Day 9: From Skye we head to the Small isles, probably Eigg or Muck, two great little islands to explore.
Day 10: Most of the day spent heading for Loch Spelve, but even on this day we will have time to go ashore on this wildlife rich and beautiful loch.
Day 11: After a very hearty breakfast to see you on your way, it’s back to Oban for 10:30. We will keep an eye out for otters as we exit Loch Spelve channel, always a good place for a sighting.
