Would you join us for a voyage to Rathlin Island?

We’ve been mulling over a completely new itinerary for late May or June 2027 and before we commit to it, we thought we’d ask you.

The idea is to take Hjalmar Bjorge a little further south than usual, exploring Islay, Jura and Colonsay before crossing the North Channel to Rathlin Island, just off the coast of Northern Ireland.

It would make for a really interesting trip. There’s the wildlife and scenery of the Southern Hebrides, the Paps of Jura, Islay and its whisky heritage, the Northern Irish coast and Rathlin itself – home to a remarkable seabird colony.

During the breeding season, its cliffs are packed with puffins, guillemots, razorbills, kittiwakes and fulmars. There’s also the chance of chough and peregrine, while the waters around the island are good for seals, dolphins and, with a bit of luck, whales.

As always, the route would be flexible and dictated by weather and sea conditions, with plenty of time ashore and opportunities to explore along the way.

But this one is very much at the ideas stage. We’d like to know whether there’s enough appetite for it before adding it to the 2027 programme.
