A 2-night cruise from Stornoway to Ullapool, stopping first at the enchanting Shiant Isles located in the Minch off the Isle of Lewis, and then at the Summer Isles at the mouth of Loch Broom. Join our trip leader Noel Hawkins, an avid snorkeler who has been instrumental in helping establish the snorkelling trails for the Scottish Wildlife Trust, and explore these two beautiful and diverse locations.
We will meet in Stornoway, timing our departure for aorund 2pm to allow the morning ferry to arrive for those travelling across from Ullapool. Our first exciting destination will be the Shiant Isles, just a couple of hour's cruise to the south along the coast of Lewis and passing through some great waters for spotting whales, dolphins, porpoise and sea eagles.
We will anchor at the Shiants where you will have your first chance to get in the sheltered clear waters and explore amidst the puffins and other seabirds. Afterwards we will settle down to dinner and spend the night at the islands, watching and listening to the thousands of nesting seabirds.
The morning will offer another chance to snorkel at the Shiants, maybe in a different location depending on the tide and weather. The islands are also very interesting to explore on foot too for those that might want to with history dating back to the Vikings and beyond.
We will leave around midday and head over the Minch through more great cetacean and seabird waters with our guides on watch for you to point out any sightings, before arriving at the lovely Summer Isles usually only seen passing by from the ferry. Once we anchor there will be another chance to snorkel in this new location in the afternoon and perhaps go ashore on one of the islands to explore too before dinner.
Our final morning will offer one last chance for a quick snorkel in perhaps a new location before we have to reluctantly head back into Ullapool, taking in the magnificent mountain scenery along the way.
